Poet’s Square is a historic residential neighborhood located east of downtown Tucson. The area developed during the early twentieth century as Tucson expanded beyond its original settlement core. Housing in Poet’s Square consists largely of compact single-family homes arranged on a traditional street grid. The neighborhood reflects working and middle-class housing patterns of the streetcar and early automobile eras.
The neighborhood lies near major east–west corridors that connect downtown with east Tucson. Surrounding districts include other early residential neighborhoods with similar architectural forms. Poet’s Square has remained largely residential throughout its history. It represents an important stage in Tucson’s early urban growth.
